There are speculations of MLA Raj Gopal Reddy joining the BJP
In Telangana too, there has been a rebellion within the Congress itself. The state leaders here are not happy with the working style of Congress party state president Revanth Reddy and are demanding immediate intervention from the party high command. The latest concern is about Munugode MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, who is rife with speculation to join the BJP. If he leaves the party, many other Congress MLAs may step forward to do so. The Indian Express, quoting sources, said that it seems that Raj Gopal has made up his mind to leave the party despite the efforts of several senior leaders of the party to persuade him.
Anger among leaders against Revanth Reddy – report
Sources say that Raj Gopal Reddy ‘could take a large chunk of Congress supporters with him’. A party leader said Raj Gopal “doesn’t like A Revanth Reddy’s way of running the party”. Revanth was earlier in TDP and joined Congress in 2017 itself. But perhaps under the influence of Rahul Gandhi, he has been made the state president. Raj Gopal Reddy also feels that the party has given leadership roles to ‘outsiders’ instead of loyal Congressmen. According to information, the MLA from Munugode had asked Revanth not to visit Nalgonda district or do campaign work there. Raj Gopal’s constituency is in this district.
Raj Gopal Reddy’s brother is also a Member of Parliament
Raj Gopal Reddy’s brother Venkata Reddy is also a member of the Lok Sabha from Bhongir, which falls in Nalgonda district. Overall, both the brothers have a strong base in the area. The state Congress leaders fear that this move of Raj Gopal Reddy may have an impact on his brother as well, which may damage the future of the Congress in the district. A source said, “Raj Gopal Reddy forbade Revanth Reddy from going to Nalgonda or campaigning and warned him to stay away from there. They feel that Revanth promotes himself more than the party and does not involve any party leader in any of his decisions. Almost all the leaders of the party have realized this and now they are saying this strongly.
Jagga Reddy is also angry with Revanth’s work style
Party MLA from Sangareddy T Jayaprakash Reddy or Jagga Reddy is also reportedly upset with Revanth Reddy’s style of functioning and has also approached the All India Congress Committee on the issue. Party insiders say that other senior Congress leaders of the state have also joined AICC. have conveyed their point to the leaders and requested them to ‘pay attention to the state’ and ‘resolve the matter’. Jagga Reddy said, ‘Revanth Reddy does everything for himself. He did nothing for the good of the party. They should be held personally responsible. I have complained to AICC. How will Congress come to power in Telangana when Revanth has no support in the party itself? There is no party leader with them.
Some leaders distance themselves from this controversy
Party insiders said that former state Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Congress Legislature Party leader M Bhatti Wickremarka and other office bearers have distanced themselves from the issue. However, according to some state leaders, Revant was “trying to involve everyone in the decision-making process” and “will travel across the state to unite the party in its efforts to win the Congress in the coming elections” ( photos-file)
