A third suspect has been arrested in this connection deadly shooting of an off-duty Southern California police officer, officials said Friday.
Gerardo Magalnes, 18, of San Pedro, was arrested Thursday evening after Monterey Park police officer Guardial Solorio, 26, of Bell Gardens was fatally shot in the parking lot of an LA fitness gym. Downey, California, Downey Police Department said.
Magellan’s role in the shooting is not known.
Police said earlier this week, officers arrested 20-year-old Carlos Daniel Delcid and a 17-year-old suspect.
The rookie officer initially got away with the suspects, who were try to rob her Before his car collided with another vehicle, Monterey Park Police Chief Kelly Gordon said Tuesday during a news conference with Captain Scott Laufner.
After this, Delcid fired several times at Solorio. The teenager was the driver, officials said.
On Tuesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva told Downey police arrested The investigation into the deaths of the two suspects and Solorio was still ongoing.
“We are pleased to learn that the arrests have been made,” the sheriff said. “There’s a lot more investigation to go on.”
Delseid appeared in court on Thursday and was ordered to remain in prison without bail until his September sentence, Fox LA reported.
Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon said during a press conference on Wednesday that Delseid faces charges of murder, attempted robbery and a felony in possession of a firearm — which could result in a life sentence.
After graduating from the County Sheriff’s Academy on July 22, Solorio joined the Monterey Park Police Department in January. He started field training on 25 July.
