The National Weather Service office in Fort Worth/Dallas warned, “We don’t know which areas will get 8+ inches of extreme rainfall, but if it happens near you, there will be significant flooding.”
“Everyone in the watch area should plan for additional commute times, especially on Monday mornings,” the weather service said.
A level 3 in 4 “moderate risk” of extreme rainfall has been issued by the Weather Prediction Center, primarily across northern Texas, where 3 inches of rain per hour were expected during Sunday’s heaviest storm.
More than 90% of Texas is experiencing drought conditions, with about 62% under extreme or exceptional drought conditions, the highest two categories.
Additional flood clocks may be added in surrounding locations after Sunday.
It rained in parts of Arizona and New Mexico on Sunday after flooding in parts of the Southwest on Saturday.
The park was closed on Sunday, the National Park Service said.
“Maintenance teams will begin assessing and clearing debris from the roadway,” the National Park Service said.
