Officers say police in suburban Fort Worth, Texas, shot a man who pointed a rifle at them

Richland Hills, Texas – In suburban Fort Worth, police shot a man who had pointed a rifle at them, officials said.

The shootings in Richland Hills occurred on Friday as two officers were investigating reports of shootings on a city street. According to Richland Hills officer Sheena McEachron, they found a man carrying a rifle about two blocks away.

“The suspect picked up and pointed what has been identified as a semi-automatic rifle at officers,” McEachran said. “The officers fired at the suspect,” who was pronounced dead at the scene.

McEachron said Saturday that it was not yet known whether the man shot officers or how many times he was shot, part of an ongoing investigation.

MacEachran said the man’s body was sent to a medical examiner for identification. The officials did not release the names of the two officers who were put on paid leave as per the norm.

Texas Rangers will investigate the shooting.
