Saudi Arabia says wanted man blew himself up during arrest


Dubai, United Arab Emirates — a person wanted by security officers Saudi Arab The state said on Friday that he killed himself with an explosive belt to evade arrest, injuring four others in the blast.

The state-run Saudi Press Agency, citing the Saudi State Security Presidency, identified the dead man as Abdullah bin Zayed al-Shehri.

As security forces approached him in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Wednesday, al-Shehri detonated the bomb belt, the report said. The injured have been identified in the report as a Pakistani national and three security officials.

The report did not provide any details about al-Shehri’s background, nor does he belong to any known extremist group.

The state has fought al-Qaeda and Islamic State militants.
